Touch, Knob or App: How Lamp Dimming Actually Works

The dimmer is the most-touched part of a lamp and the least discussed. The shade gets the photography, the silhouette gets the compliments, but the control is what your hand finds every single evening — often three or four times between dinner and sleep. What dimming actually does

Old incandescent bulbs dimmed by simple starvation: feed the filament less power and it glows more faintly. LEDs work differently.
